Youth from China emerges as Grand Champion of Flyway University Alliance (FUA) 3-Minute Speech Competition

Liu Ziyue from Beijing Forestry University (BFU) was awarded Grand Champion during the finals of the FUA held online on 16 October 2025. Liu was invited to speak at the MOP12 plenary. Her winning speech, Saving the Songs: Creating Bird-Friendly Cities in a Rapidly Urbanizing World, shares that bird-friendly cities save 1 Billion lives as 1 billion birds die due to window collisions.

The 3-Minute Online Speech Competition was opened for students and researchers from FUA member institutions to showcase their ideas, passion, and communication skills.

Over 500 young students from four countries and regions (China, Russia, the Republic of Korea, and Sri Lanka) participated by sending their videos on the topic “Shared Spaces: Bird-Friendly Cities and Communities”. The Top 10 were invited to a final round where they delivered their speech online to a panel of judges.

Other awardees include Taegyu Kim and Amaya Wijekoon (Second Place), Charindu Jayasahan Wijeratne (Third Place and Most Popular Presenter), and Buddhima Gunawardena and Olga Prokopenko (Third Place).
