EAAFP at the Wetlands COP15

The 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP15) will be held from 23 to 31 July 2025 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe). Under the theme, “Protecting Wetlands for Our Common Future”, the Meeting will highlight the importance of wetlands in supporting biodiversity, enhancing climate resilience, and maintaining ecological balance. 

COP15 is expected to strengthen international commitments for wetland conservation by facilitating discussions on the sustainable use of wetlands, fostering collaborations, and promoting practices that protect wetlands and the essential services they provide. 

The EAAFP, together with several Partners, will take on an active role in this global conference. Apart from the main meeting, side events are organised as an avenue for knowledge exchange, dialogues, and collaboration opportunities.

Connecting Wetlands, Flyways, People and Institutions

The side event will explore how strengthening ecological, social, and institutional connectivity can enhance wetland conservation across regions. The session will address financing challenges by examining innovative mechanisms to support restoration and management, and will feature China’s experiences in flyway and wetland conservation through policy and practice, case study of OECMs for Spoon-billed Sandpiper, and CEPA initiatives in line with draft COP 15 resolutions.

This side event is organised by the EAAFP, ICLEI, ADB, MCF together with BirdLife, WHSRN, CMS, ICF.

Ramsar Regional Initiatives – delivering for Ramsar globally through regional partnerships

The side event will highlight the role of the RRIs in promoting the objectives for the Convention on Wetlands and how it links global efforts to regional actions. The event will also discuss ways forward for RRIs, including replication of successful approaches, support for less active initiatives, and creation of new RRIs.
