The side-event is offering a chance of discussion in the pros and cons of establishing a regional network on conservation of migratory land birds, as recent monitoring results throughout the world show open-habitat land birds such as the Critically Endangered Yellow-breasted Bunting are amongst the bird species groups suffering the biggest decline. We have submitted a proposal to establish an ad hoc committee to discuss the feasibility of inclusion of migratory land birds into the scope of the EAAFP, as no similar mechanism on land bird conservation exists in Asia. We have joined the EAAFP webinar on 4 July to explain why there is an urgent need and we believe the side event can let all partners have a chance to discuss this important conservation issue in detail.
