Continue readingシンポジウム「渡り鳥が来る自然を守る地域の活動」が開催されました
2015 年1月21日午後、釧路市観光国際交流センターにおいて、市民シンポジウム「渡り鳥が来る自然を守る地域の活動」が開催されました（主催：釧路市）。釧路市と周辺町村に広がる釧路湿原は、東アジア・オーストラリア地域フライウェイの重要な生息地の一つであり、その保全には多くの市民が携わっています。東アジア・オーストラリア地域フライウェイ・パートナーシップ（EAAFP）の第８回パートナー会議にあわせて開催されたこのシンポジウムでは、市民による渡り鳥とその生息地の保全に焦点が当てられ、釧路市民など約160人が参加しました。 はじめに日本雁を保護する会会長の呉地正行氏が、日本国内における雁の分布の変化について、土地利用の変化や農業の方法と関係が深いことについて紹介しました。次に、EAAFP事務局長のスパイク・ミリントンが、渡り性水鳥とその生息地の保全には国際的な協力が必要であるとともに地域住民による保全への参加と支援が欠かせないことを強調しました。 続くパネルディスカッションでは、NPO法人タンチョウ保護研究グループ理事長の百瀬邦和氏とオーストラリア・クイーンズランド大学准教授リチャード・フュラー氏がパネリストとして加わりました。コーディネーターの菊地義勝氏（釧路市環境保全課湿地保全主幹）が、なぜ渡り鳥が人間にとって国際的にも地域にとっても重要なのかと問いかけ、会場の参加者も交えて活発な議論が交わされ、フライウェイ内で個体数が減少しているタンチョウは、釧路市においては地元の人たちの努力によりその個体数が回復し、市民にとっては特別な意味を持っているのではないか、また、渡り鳥はフライウェイ内に位置する多くの国にとって共有の財産なので地域全体で保全活動をしなければならないのではないか、などの意見が出されました。百瀬氏は、タンチョウを守ることは地元の釧路湿原を守ることであると指摘し、フュラー氏は、釧路湿原をはじめとするこの地域の湿地と姉妹湿地提携を結んでいるハンター河口湿地の位置するオーストラリアでは、市民が自治体や政府との協力のもとに定期的なモニタリングを実施し、地域が一体となって生息地の保全に貢献していることを紹介しました。渡り鳥は観光資源として収益を生み出し、地域住民にとっては「自分たちが守っている」という誇りを育むものでもあり、市民の保全意識の更なる醸成が期待されました。 シンポジウム チラシは ここ[PDF]
