Continue readingLooking for wader watchers – Western coast of Kamchatka, Russia
Yvonne Verkuil The large wader stopover in Khairusova?Belogolovaya estuary on the Western coast of Kamchatka peninsula is not very famous and scientists have started investigate this area only several years ago. The last expedition in 2015, the estuary was found to host 31 wader species. During the peak of migration, in the end of July, we counted […]
Continue readingBirds connect: countries, sites and people!
A personal note by Andreas Kim For our winter vacation trip (Jan-Feb) we visited the far southern end of our East Asian-Australasian Flyway: New Zealand. Because of the personal connection from my research work on leg-flagged shorebirds we stayed quite a long time at the Pukorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre at the Firth of Thames [EAAF019]. […]

by Carpentaria Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (CLCAC) A recent initiative by Morr Morr Pastoral Company (Delta Downs) and the Kurtijar people has brought international recognition to the South-East Gulf coast. This has highlighted connections migratory birds make between the Arctic, where they nest, and northern Australia, where they travel after breeding. Every year, about 30 […]

Rick Lanctot, Shorebird Working Group Chair Additional information on band recaptures or resight observations of the four subspecies of Dunlin (C. a. actites, arcticola, kistchinski, and sakhalina) that breed in Russia or Alaska, and winter in the East Asian-Australasian flyway are needed for a migratory connectivity study. The goal of this study is to identify subspecies-specific […]
Continue reading
